Valentine's Day Doily Garland Tutorial

This project originally shared on 30 Handmade Days

The Christmas decorations are all packed away, the New Year's celebration has come and gone so now it's time to start thinking about Valentine's Day!  Here is a quick and easy craft tutorial that will get you in the mood for loving your Valentine's home décor.

 Heart Garland

This project literally has 1 step and if you have a sewing machine gathering dust somewhere in your home, this is the perfect time to break it out and get back on the sewing saddle.  If you have never used it, this is a great learning project too!

I grabbed these paper doilies in the Target dollar section.  If your location is out you could probably score some at Michael's or Hobby Lobby.

With the gold doilies all I did was run a straight stitch and feed them one right after another.  Who ever thought of sewing on paper deserves an award, it opens so many possibilities for crafting!

If you want them farther apart you can sew a couple stitches in between the doilies by just waiting a second or two before feeding the next doily under the presser foot.  I chose to overlap them so the hearts wouldn't turn upside down.

Next I moved on to the red and white doilies.

I alternated the small white doilies with the larger red ones.  I also placed one of the small white ones in the center of the big red ones while sewing.  No need to glue or sew separate.  I just laid it on top and kept on sewing.  It didn't move as long as I kept my finger on it while feeding it through.

You have to love a craft project that takes just minutes, costs a couple dollars and has 1 step in the instructions!  Now that your home is looking "lovely", check out this fun Valentine's Day card project that will keep your little ones busy while you whip up some of these yummy Chocolate Dipped Marshmallow Pops.
