DIY Indiana Jones Birthday Party

Gavin turned 7 in November so naturally, it's time to blog about it since I've been sitting on these photos for almost a year.  He was obsessed with the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland so he chose to have an Indiana Jones Birthday Party.  This one was really fun to plan since it's kind of off the radar as far as character parties go.  It's easy to find Ninjago, Lego, Batman and all the other popular characters in the party section, but I had to get creative.  The cake details were my favorite so I saved them for the end!

Lennie's cousin is an amazing artist and drew this treasure map on some brown wrapping paper for the backdrop.  I burned the edges to make it look authentic and draped cargo nets over it.

I mean look at that face...doesn't he just make the cutest Indie?!

I kept things somewhat simple with just a couple of snacks and treats.  It's easy to get caught up and feel like you need to feed everyone an extravagant meal, but a couple snacks and some cake is all that is really needed.

Sour belts are Gavin's favorite, he's a boy after my own heart.  I remember riding my bike to the store as a kid to buy these from the plastic bin at the cash register.  Anyone remember those tiny little plastic tongs?

I made these labels by downloading the free Indiana Jones font and adding it on top of a map graphic I found.

Gummy snakes are my favorite kind of snakes...they are really the only kind of snakes I like.

I hung these rubber snakes from fishing line to make it look like they were coming down from the ceiling.

Mini telescope from Amazon (link below), the kids still play with this all the time.

Found gold coins around my house for months after the party.

I grabbed this globe from Hobby Lobby a couple years ago and went perfectly with this Indiana Jones Birthday.

Believe it or not, I put this Indiana Jones Birthday Cake together myself.  Well, I mean...Sam's Club played a small part I guess.  I ordered a stacked cake with chocolate frosting and they gave me some green icing to work my own magic.  I cut a hole in the icing bag and drizzled the vines on and then used black icing to make the cracks in the Temple of Doom.

I stacked fun size Twix to make the Temple Stairs and added Ferrero Rocher to look like boulders.  I had some of these plastic air plants that looked perfect.

The best part was this Goblet that I made by spraying a plastic party cup and gluing gems on it.

Gavin loved his party so much and I loved seeing how excited all the decorations made him.
